In 2022, Mind Brain Foundation held its first fundraising event.  It was a cocktail hour held at one of our supporters’ Park Avenue Apartment in New York City.  Lead researchers from Weill-Cornell Medical’s Judith Jaffe MS Research Center presented their investigation into already FDA-approved compounds to determine whether these drugs exhibit properties that could repair myelin damaged by the effects of MS. Mind Brain raised $25,000 at the event. The funds enabled the Jaffe Research Center to obtain a large NIH grant to continue the work.

The Mind Brain Foundation launched its first annual MS fundraising campaign, MS Stand Up, in 2023, with a comedy club benefit as the centerpiece event. The benefit raised $28,000 to support a study investigating the prevalence of Clostridium perfringens types B and D in MS patients and matched controls across three locations: New York, Seattle, and Sardinia. Our contribution helped sustain the project until it received a major grant from the National MS Society to continue the research.

Building on MS Stand Up’s initial successour 2024 comedy benefit raised $35,000 to fund groundbreaking research at Weill Cornell Medical Center. The study identified a unique set of genes in MS patients with active lesions—key drivers of disease progression and difficult-to-treat inflammation in the brain. Thanks to the Foundation’s support, the project moved forward, secured additional funding, and is now poised to pursue NIH and National MS Society grants to develop targeted therapies for MS.

This year (2025), Mind Brain Foundation is building on its momentum by funding the work of Dr. Yinghua Ma, Assistant Professor of Research in Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medicine. His lab is deepening and confirming our understanding of how these bacteria may trigger disease and drive brain inflammation.

By backing Dr. Ma’s research, we’re helping to accelerate a vital line of inquiry: how microbial toxins and immune responses interact in MS. Our support ensures that this promising project stays on track and positions it to secure even larger grants in the future.
